Encounter Gorilla Safari in Rwanda

The unique opportunity to see gorillas in their natural habitat is unforgettable and life changing. Encounters with gorillas as they go about their daily lives are carefully managed, with expert trackers and guides leading small groups of tourists up bamboo-covered slopes to spend a precious and awe-inspiring hour just a few feet away from the gentle creatures.

There are twelve gorilla families living in the Volcanoes National Park, which are fully habituated, with a few others habituated solely for scientific research. The groups, or troops, consist of at least one silver back along with several females and youngsters.

Eight tracking permits are issued per troop per day, meaning the encounter is as intimate as possible. With only 96 permits available each day in Rwanda, it is highly recommended to book your gorilla trek in advance, at a fee of 1500$ US with us and enjoy the everlasting clear service changing you gorilla life tremendously.

Catch up at the annual Kwita Izina gorilla-naming ceremony a special time to visit the Volcanoes National Park, with guided tours leading up the main event providing an opportunity to meet park staff and conservationists, attend cultural evenings and a celebration in Musanze. At the naming ceremony itself, there’s music, dancing, and discussion about Rwanda’s great strides in gorilla conservation, and the great challenges that remain.

This is the only chance you have to hike to Dian Fossey’s tomb. Dian Fossey is one of the greatest and most prominent primatologist of the 20th century. She was considered an authority in all issues related to the endangered mountain gorillas from 1967 till her death in 1985. Born in 1932, Dian Fossey spent most of her life studying mountain gorillas extensively in their natural habitat and at her Karisoke Research Camp/centre located between Mount Bisoke and Karisimbi in Rwanda.

She made the world know more about mountain gorillas and advocated for their protection against extensive poaching.  It’s widely believed that without her efforts, mountain gorillas would have been extinct or their numbers drastically reduced.

Visiting the grave of Dian Fossey is a unique experience that can be done a day before tracking gorillas (for those who have booked for gorilla trekking in Rwanda).  It is a great way to pay homage to one of the greatest mountain gorilla researchers.

You will learn about her work with the mountain gorillas in the remote mountains or Rwanda and also contribute towards the very work that she started in 1967.

The hike will give you time to reflect on many things and challenge you at a physical, emotional and intellectual level. You might even get inspired to fight for something you truly believe in like she did.

The best time to visit Rwanda for gorilla trekking tours are during the long dry season of June to September or during the short dry season of mid-December to early-February. These seasons offer easier hiking conditions.
