African Trip of A Lifetime with Mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park

Me and my traveling buddy arrived in Kampala and were met by our Guide Emma; he swiftly took us to our hotel for 2 nights in Kampala. Ready for our road trip he met we as arranged and off we went.

Our trip for 7 Days was Kampala -Queen Elizabeth NP, Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi, and Bwindi to Kampala. Over the days this was a lot of traveling and a lot of time spent in the van however we wouldn’t have changed a thing. We were lucky enough to have the van to just the 2 of us which was great as we could stop as and when plus had plenty of space to relax and enjoy the time on the road. Abundance of water was provided and the sliding roof gave great photo opportunities whenever we wanted. Emma our guide is an absolute legend.

He was a brilliant driver (not an easy task on some of those roads), thoughtful, engaging, informative, caring, a true gentleman and over the time we spent with him became our friend. We were so sorry to say good bye to him when we left to get our flight home. The trip itself was brilliant but Emma absolutely made the whole experience just absolutely brilliant – we miss him already and planning a return trip with Nature Adventure Africa Safaris Limited to take tours in Rwanda and would insist Emma be our guide again.

On the first day of our trip, the stop at Kazinga Channel for a 2 hour boat trip was absolutely brilliant. We had the boat to just the 2 of us so was a private trip and as it had been raining we didn’t see the elephants come to the water, however the abundance of hippo’s, crocodiles and bird life were excellent. 3 hippos tried to overturn our boat which was an added excitement considering they are the second main killer in Africa, second to the Mosquito!

Our night at Ihamba safari lodge was great, lovely place and will post a separate review. Again, we had the whole lodge to ourselves which was peaceful and relaxing. Paul the security who we had been chatting to on our walk back to the lodge after dinner, kindly knocked us just before midnight to show us mama and baby hippo that were out of the water just by our lodge – breathtaking experience not to be forgotten. Early morning gave drive for elephants, hippo, lions, Kobs, Warthogs and so much more before heading up to Bwindi.

2 nights at the Trekkers Tavern, again brilliant and had the place to ourselves! Of course the highlight was our Gorilla Tracking which is what we traveled for, a family of 20 and we saw over 10 of them, including the silver back with the mother and 2 babies and many more youngsters playing in the trees. We have over 2000 photos and videos of our trip but nothing can beat the actual experience.

We absolutely loved our entire trip and the fact that Eris called twice during our time there was a great added touch. Nothing was too much trouble and even when we arranged (of our own choice) to move hotels for our return night in Kampala, Nature Adventure Africa Safaris intervened and sorted it out for us. I recommend Nature Adventure Africa Safaris but especially Emma our guide and now our friend enough.

This trip surpassed our expectations and we will definitely be back and use this company again – thank you so much for the experience of a lifetime, a week full of laughs and brilliant moments.
